How does it work?
The emotional switch.

Switch on, you're crying and lonely,
And needy and vulnerable, sometimes happy.

Switch off, you're aloof and indifferent,
And numb and cold hearted, sometimes propitious.

How does it work?

Being blissful only on someone's birthday.

By 11:55pm, she was anxious,
About the birthday, looking into oblivion.
By 12am, she burst into a dazzling smile
of crooked teeth and gratefulness,
Looking forward to blowing candles without bitterness.

Being tearful only on someone's death date.

By 11:55pm, she was chirpy,
Watching the world evolve on television.
By 12am, she burst a stream of tears and abandonment,
Remembering her world crash
Like the ashes flying of the dead.

By 11:55pm, she jumped with joy.
As she gave birth to her boy.
By 12am, she sank into sorrow.
As she lost her soulmate, god-borrowed.

How does it work?
The emotional switch.

Why the obligation to cry,
To cut our wounds,
On a miserable day. (It’s just a date, a number.)
Why the obligation to laugh,
To polish our buried happiness,
On a merry day. (It’s again just one of the days, one of the numbers.)

How does it work?
The emotional switch.
How does delighted dopamine,
Turn into crestfallen cortisol?

She wonders,
As by 11:55pm, she is birthing new blood.
As by 12am, she is burning old blood.
While her own blood turns pink.
Mix of lives,
Understandin the freaking point of life.
